who i wanna be
status update: suffering between not-so-delightful seasonal allergies & studying for finals (it’s so hard to concentrate when your nose and head feel all stuffed up, eyes watering, throat itchy…)
and yes, even though i should be studying right now for a music history exam – memorizing dates, of all things (yep) – i have the utmost desire to blog about this new music that was released a couple days ago, which i discovered a couple days ago. here’s a short story about that “couple days ago”:
over the weekend, i had the opportunity of a lifetime to attend a particularly lavish event down in the states. even though we are both canadians (& torontonians, at that), i was introduced to the lead singer & songwriter of today’s featured irish-canadian band: ROMES, consisting of Jacob Bitove (vocals), Nick Bitove (drums), Andrew Keyes (bass), and James Tebbits (guitar). i’ve heard of the band prior to their name change but haven’t really listened to their music. when he mentioned that they had just released their newest EP the day before, i knew what i was going to be doing that evening. man, i would love to discuss all their songs on this EP, but i guess i’ll just start with this one.
album: believe – EP
i’ll be honest, i went in listening without any expectations at all, not knowing what kind of sound they have. needless to say, my ears were really, really satisfied – absolutely loving this title track of theirs, and jake bitove’s velvety voice. the guardian has even featured the band on their “new band of the week” segment (check it out here), along with other music sites, such as neon gold records and indie shuffle. fun fact: even hozier has recommended their music to his fans!
the essence of the song?
“Everyone has the power to dream and no one can take that away from you. I wanted to write a song to motivate all the dreamers, myself being one of them. Live your life how you want to, not how others think you should.” – Jacob Bitove (via five seven music)
ROMES (formerly known as nightbox) has come back to the music industry with a bang, and are set to release their full-length album later this year (and i know somebody who cannot wait to get their hands on that!). the world better watch out, because this band is set to bless our ears with more good music.
